Discovering Artificial Intelligence
2025 Professional Development Series exclusive for QLD ICT GISP School Teachers
Discover AI
Overview
This professional learning program offers teachers a hands-on opportunity to explore Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its connections to their subject areas. AI is a rapidly growing field that influences nearly every aspect of our lives, often in ways that go unnoticed. Participants will gain insights into the subtle yet pervasive role of AI, the transformative possibilities it brings, and the ethical considerations behind its algorithms. This knowledge will empower educators to design engaging and innovative activities that inspire and inform their students about this pivotal technology.
Learn AI in Semester 1 or 2
This professional learning program is offered in Semester 1, with a repeat session for a new group in Semester 2. No prior knowledge of AI is required—just a sense of curiosity and a willingness to explore how AI can open exciting possibilities for student learning. Participants will embark on a journey to uncover the transformative potential of AI in education and spark innovation in their classrooms.
Format
-
To start, teachers will complete an online course in the DTI Classroom on AI to establish foundational knowledge. This course takes approximately ½ day to complete.
-
The webinar will build on this by exploring essential AI concepts and real-world applications. Participants will deepen their understanding of AI principles and discover creative ways for students to engage with AI in their classroom learning. The webinar will be delivered in two 90-minute sessions.
-
A 1-hour Q&A session will follow the webinar. This dedicated Q&A time will allow participants to clarify key points, consolidate their learning, and begin brainstorming how to integrate AI concepts into their school environments.
-
After the webinar, participants can access ongoing email support to guide them in successfully implementing AI in their classrooms.
Resources
Participants will have access to a range of professional learning resources that include:
-
Online Course Access (DTI Classroom) for self-directed, hands-on AI learning, such as creating AI Models, AI and conventional programming, ethics, bias, inner workings of AI and AI scenarios. The online course also serves as a repository for classroom resources. Teachers can always come back to this course if they want to read up on something again or if they just simply forgot something AI-related.
-
My Computer Brain Learning platform (interactive AI). This online platform has many interactive AI experiments, suitable for learning about AI and drawing inspiration for classroom lessons. Selected lessons are accompanied by lesson plans, co-developed by the Digital Technologies Institute and the Digital Technologies Hub.
